The rules have already been rejected by multiple state courts, but the Trump administration said it’s preparing in case of a favorable Supreme Court decision.  

In a Monday filing, the Justice Department said states sued before agencies even decided how the order would work.

The ruling is a victory for election advocates who say the evidence overwhelmingly shows that voter fraud is rare and not tied to mail voting in general. 

A judge said Democrats and civil groups filed the lawsuit too early to demonstrate harm, but that could change after newly proposed postal regulations.

A letter from election officials in all 50 states and D.C. said the agency needed to take immediate action.

“The voters decide the winner in an election, not the president, and not the attorney general,” the ex-officials said.

The court fights over the long weekend stretched from California to Pennsylvania.

The removal comes with just weeks to go before the election.
